Nalukataq is a native Iñupiat festival celebrated right at the end of the whaling season, in which all people are invited to eat traditional foods, sing, dance and jump on a large whaleskin tarp. This branding package was designed to encourage people from mainland America to develop their cultural experiences and visit Barrow, Alaska in July for Nalukataq, in order to break down cultural and social barriers and create new friends.
The design scheme was intended to be elegant but approachable - and still hold true to the native Iñupiat aesthetic. The patterning in each of the posters is an abstracted traditional motif, using traditional colors, while the layout and structure of the pieces is sleek and easily communicates the necessary information to an observer.
